Alembic got it right. Tone wood is a myth when it comes to electric instruments.

In buying one to replace a Reverend bass that was a decent bass but hard times had to sell. The studio 4 honey satin or purple quilted? Multi scale or standard?

Who owns that? Think Phil had the 1st bass, then Jerry had something built. Grateful Dead put most of its profits back into sound during the early years.

I use an AKG D112 Mkll...great bass mic...takes over 160db volume distortion free... 20hz - 20kHz , -5db 20hz, -5db 20kHz...clearer top end & more defined with a clearer deep bass...my favourite gigging bass mic The T-Bone is more of a Shure styled mic...the AKG reminds me of a '50's space craft out of a Flash Gordon episode...neat...the AKG sounds so much nicer imo, worth the extra money as the AKG D112 Mkll should last for many years & is more robustly built....

I'm glad there are old Fenders, the new ones are completely digital, synthetic. I have a 73 model Fender jazz bass and its value is priceless.❤

I have a 69 jazz but it has lollipop tuners not club shape

I use my Aguilar TLC compressor as a boost when I’m not using the AGS circuitry. And then when I turn on the AGS circuitry, I turn off the compressor so that I can use it when playing live and switch back-and-forth at will without any change and volume. Something to think about.

This is a good rundown of 2 exceptional Jazz Basses. I'm definitely a Rock N Roll style/Heavy Metal bassist who takes influences from the 1970-very very early 1990s. Yet I clean all my instruments thoroughly and keep them in protective cases. I'm a clean Rocker lol. That being said I'm mainly a Precision job kBass man but in this case I would be more than satisfied with the American Modern Pro series or even one of the cheaper Fender Jazz Basses not displayed or demoed on this video. There wasn't anything about that 1969 classic that said it's worth over twice the money. Beautiful collectors piece and fantastic tone though.

I played a series 1 and compared it to my Alembic elan and don't get me wrong the series 1 is a monster and a lot more tone but you can hear Alembic in all of their stuff

Great sounds, but should add USB out and bluetooth streaming. Peavey x2 and X3 are making a killing cause the the world has gone digital streaming already. I'll get them with those functions.

I own many Shecter guitars and basses. I have a Stiletto Studio 4 in transparent black satin with dark chrome hardware. The EMG's and neck-through are amazing on this bass. One of my main go-to's 100%.

This is very informative video for giving us information that is rare in this kind of reviews, and that is how most common and relevant brands of strings behave through the time. I wished to write a comment with my experience, and then I saw that dear Ove is no longer with us. I feel very sorry for that. But for the sake of the viewers and admirers of this channel, I will write that the last set of strings I bought were GHS Boomers, and they got old very quickly, and this is not the worst. The worst thing is that they have aged unevenly, so the A string has lost much more freshness than the others, to the extent that it can no longer be considered the same set.

I have two of this pedal, I found my sound with it, amazing pedal, I love it too much!!!!

Alembic, Ken Smith, and Music Man were the first manufacturers to break the mold as far as bass tone is concerned and Alembic was the first to make basses that were technological marvels and look like works of art! When I first heard Stanley Clarke playing an Alembic on "Lopsy Lu", I was mesmerized by the tone before being mind-boggled by his technique! I miss my 1982 Spoiler 4!!! Thank you for a great demo!

69 head and shoulders in most examples. I'm more interested in the WHY it sounds like it does, I suspect a great deal the difference in quality of materials used in mainly the pick-ups but maybe even wood and lacker vs polyurethane

My guess is that most owners of the Series 1 or 2 are hobbyists. Working musicians probably use Fenders or at least a bass that costs costs less than $5,000. Would you take an Alelmbic like that into a smokey bar to play? Do you even have the money to buy anything like this?

I listened to this with good headphones and to me the 69 sounded much more open an lively. The Professional was nice too of course but sounded much more compressed.

I think the maple fingerboard makes a difference. I always preferred the Maple.

Nice review! This is an interesting alternative to the Taylor and other equivalents. If you still have it, how usable is the cutaway? I play a lot of melodic parts on my Guild, and would love to have better access.

I had a honor to play 69 jazz bass on few gigs in -71 -73. There was a big band rehearsing in same place as our band and the bassist was a kind person who loved to see young musicians starting their career. I always remember his kindness, my six member working class family wasn't wealthy. Same goes with the organ player, he loaned his Selmer amp and cab to many gigs.

It's the best. Everything from clean to super sweet distortion. And not set to only mid scooped like the Sansamp.

This video helped me to decide on buying stiletto studio 4 fretless looking forward to getting it. Apparently it’s the last one in production. The particular model has been discontinued, expecting it to be arriving in June.

How much weight Stiletto4 ?

I had a BTB with Bartolini pickups and a 3-way Bartolini active system. I love the sound, and the thru neck. However, the wide neck on the 5-string was creating so much pressure on my small finger on the 4th and 5th string, that a bought a couple more basses. My old BTB also had sharp edges. I got a 5-string active/passive SR bass (which is beautiful), and a 5-string Warwick. I favor the Warwick in neck shape and deep tones, bit the SR is beautiful. However, it's what my fingers can deal with and the deep tones. No putting Ibanez down, the BTB sounded great, but my fingers could no longer take it. I find the SR cuts into my finger a bit. but the roundness of the neck of the Warwick is easier on my fingers. It also has a really clear low end. My SR has the mid frequency switch, but I don't use it much. With the 35-inch scale, the B string on my older version is a monster. too. I always use stainless steel round wound strings.
